Although dance examinations are by no means compulsory at Studio 5, most of our pupils do take them.

Examinations provide meaningful goals for pupils to strive for, inspiring them to attain increasingly high levels of skill.

Taking a dance examination can result in a great feeling of achievement, and it also provides an invaluable source of feedback from highly respected dance examiners.

Dance examination sessions are held twice a year and preparation work is done in the dance class lessons.

Examination work usually starts from age 5 upwards.

Studio 5 enters pupils in dance examinations organised by three examining bodies:

  • The Modern Teachers of Dance (medal examinations in all styles)
  • British Theatre Dance Association (graded examinations in all styles)
  • Royal Academy of Dance (graded ballet examinations)

These dance qualifications are a great way of gauging progress in dance, and they are recognised by the leading establishments in the dance industry.
